Description
I really wanted a shelf to hold some of my stuff, but because I live in an apartment, I'm not allowed to use a lot of nails in the walls, for obvious reasons. So I got thinking. If I can't use nails, was there anything else I could use?
While surfing the internet for ideas, I suddenly had an idea. Would I be able to use two Command Adhesives hooks (The ones that can hold up to 7 lbs, in theory using 2 can hold up to 14 lbs) to hold up a piece of wood with items on it?
So here's what I did to test my idea.
I bought:
- 1 piece of wood that was 1/2 inch thick
- 1 light sash chain, 30 inches
- 2 7lbs Command Adhesive hooks (I couldn't find any, so I had to go with 5 lbs hooks)
- 2 O-rings
Here's what I did:
1) When I bought the wood, it was about 38 inches, so I had to cut it in half, so each was about 18 inches.
2) I cut the sash chain in half, then cut the now 2 chains, in half again. So now I have 4 short chain of equal length.
3) I drilled small holes in the front and back of the wood, then screwed in the chains, Make sure they are straight and not tangled!
4) Using the O-Rings, I placed them through a certain spot in the chains, to make it level.
5) Place the adhesive hooks the correct length away from each other
6) Hung the shelf
7) Place light knick-knacks on shelf
And there you have it! A simple, light shelf that won't(shouldn't) damage the walls.
Feel free to use this tutorial.
